Separate trials likely for Carson defendants

HILLSBOROUGH There is no trial date set for Demario Atwater and Lawrence Lovette, Jr. in connection with the shooting death of UNC student Eve Carson.

Orange County DA Jim Woodall says Atwater will face a federal trial before the state will try him on capital murder charges.

Atwater's federal trial is scheduled to start November 2 and his pre-trial hearing will be held in June. Lovette's case could be tried in the meantime, but no official date has been set.
