Would-be thieves leave getaway car

JOHNSTON COUNTY The homeowner said she returned around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to find her door open. She called her son, who lives next door, and he chased the suspects out of the home.

The men allegedly ran into the woods and left their car at the home they intended to rob.

As of Tuesday, the North Carolina Highway Patrol searched for the suspects by air and then resumed their search on foot Wednesday morning.

It is not known if either suspect has been caught.
