Raleigh community helping ill teen

RALEIGH Dozens turned out Wednesday evening at Athens Drive High School for a "Hoops for Hope" fundraiser.

Students played faculty members in a game of basketball to raise money for Marie Neal and her family.

In January, Neal says she woke-up and got violently ill. Doctors later told the teen she needed a new liver. She is currently on a transplant waiting-list.

The operation will cost the Neal family about $115,000 out-of-pocket.

Neal says she's touched by the outpouring of support.

"I know my friends and my church care about me, but having people I don't know support me, pray for me and my family, it's eye-opening," she said.

The family says it wants to thank everyone who has helped them.
