Officer allegedly tried to hire inmate to kill

FAYETTEVILLE According to the Fayetteville Observer, inmate George Stokes, mailed a letter to the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office last month. Stokes was being held in the Raleigh Central Prison at the time.

In the letter, Stokes names Sgt. Darryl Eugene Coulter as the officer who approached him. Apparently, Coulter did not tell Stokes the name of the officer he wanted killed.

Coulter is one of two sergeants who was arrested during last month's investigation of the Spring Lake Police Department. The other is Sgt. Alphonzo Devonne Whittington. Both men are facing a number of felony and misdemeanor charges.
