The county's overall budget is down 6.2 percent. In the final budget, county departments were cut 6.6 percent, while Durham Public Schools and Durham Technological Community College both received a 2.8 percent reduction.
There were also a few fee increases. The recycling permit fee was increased Durham city residents who choose to purchase county permits. The fee would increase from $70 to $90.
Commissioners said while the budget included many reductions, it ensures Durham County will continue to meet the needs of its citizens.
The new fiscal year begins July 1.
