Run to raise money for Butterfly Fund

CARY Money raised at the Butterfly Run will go to Nancy's Butterfly Fund. Organizers plan to make it an annual event.

The fund is in memory of Nancy Cooper. The mother of two was found murdered last July in an undeveloped subdivision a few miles from her Cary home.

Cooper's husband Brad is charged with first-degree murder in his wife's death. He remains in jail.

Nancy's Butterfly Fund provides financial assistance to women and their children as they try to leave abusive relationships. Money in the fund helps victims of domestic violence pay for things like apartment deposits, childcare, food and other basic needs.

Nancy's Butterfly Fund is managed by Interact, a local agency that helps victims of domestic violence.

Organizers say the Butterfly Run will be a family fun run/walk on Saturday July 11, 2009 at 8:30 AM. It will originate and end at Koka Booth Amphitheater at 8003 Regency Parkway in Cary. The will be a balloon release over the lake for the finale.
