Wake Med runs two hospitals -Wake Med Raleigh off New Bern Avenue and Wake Med Cary near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Tryon Road.
Wake Med is going ahead with plans to convert its Wake Med North healthplex into a fully functional hospital.
Wake Med North will become the fifth hospital in Wake County. The center will also be the county's first women's hospital.
Officials said they hope the hospital will meet the needs of the growing community.
Wake Med's other two proposed new healthplexes would be in Brier Creek and the other would be just south of Raleigh near Garner.
