Wife accused of assault with frying pan

HALIFAX COUNTY According to the sheriff's office, a deputy responded to an assault call in the 5000 block of Justice Branch Road in Enfield on August 14.

When he arrived at the scene, EMS was already treating the victim, 85-year-old James Lewis, for head injuries.

An investigation revealed that Lewis' wife, 71-year-old Rosie Lewis, struck him in the head multiple times with a frying pan after an argument between the two. Apparently, the dispute began when Mrs. Lewis was cooking breakfast that morning.

Mr. Lewis complained about the first meal, so Mrs. Lewis began to cook him another meal. Authorities say that's when the couple began to argue and Mr. Lewis allegedly picked up his cane to strike Mrs. Lewis. She then hit him with a frying pan several times.

He received 50 stitches in his head.

Mrs. Lewis is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. She is being held in the Halifax County Jail without bond.
