Rabid fox found in Cary

Animal Control in the Town of Cary confirmed Tuesday that the first case of rabies this year had been found. The last reported case in Cary was in November 2007.On Sunday afternoon, residents living in the Cambridge Apartments near Ludington Court reported seeing a fox behaving strangely.

The fox was tested at the State Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh and they confirmed it was infected with the rabies virus.

Officials advise residents to use caution when dealing with any animal that may be suspicious.

They urge pet owners to always vaccinate pets and seek help immediately if anyone is bitten by any animal and notify officials as soon as possible.
