Fort Bragg soldier killed

FORT BRAGG Private First Class Brandon Andre Owens died from wounds he sustained when his patrol was attacked by enemy forces.

The 21-year-old soldier was stationed with the 118th Military Police Company (Airborne), 503rd Military Police Battalion (Airborne), 16th Military Police Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps.

Fort Bragg officials said three 118th MP Company soldiers and another unit were involved in joint operations with Afghan National Police and Afghan National Army around 2 p.m. Friday. While taking a rest, their patrol came under attack by hostile fire.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Owens, a native of Memphis, Tenn., was stationed at Fort Bragg and deployed to Afghanistan in May 2009.

A memorial service will be held at Fort Bragg on Thursday.
