Lost dog tries to walk home

HILLSBOROUGH, NC Marcie Morgan found the little dachshund in some bushes outside the Hillsborough, NC church where her husband is the pastor.

Morgan and her family took the pup to the vet and nursed him back to health.

Since the dog didn't have any collar tags, they posted an ad on the Craigslist website trying to find the owner, and a family in Richmond, Virginia responded.

They say they lost Leroy two months ago on a camping trip in Advance, NC in Davie County.

It appears that Leroy walked all the way from Advance to Hillsborough, NC - about 80 of the 295 miles he would have needed to get home following Interstate 85.

Morgan says he really wanted to find his family.

"Every time I let him out, he would start walking toward the interstate and if I didn't get him and bring him back, he would just keep walking," Morgan said. "He'd get all the way to the end of the parking lot, walking like, 'I appreciate what you did, but I'm going home now'".

Leroy's grateful owners insisted on paying the Morgan's for the vet bills, but they said no.

Then the family insisted they take the money as a donation to their church, and the Morgans accepted.
