Driver killed after fleeing

RALEIGH It happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday on Merrywood Drive and East Martin Street near downtown Raleigh.

Officers were trying to stop the car from going the wrong way on a one-way street, but the driver did not stop.

Raleigh police told Eyewitness News officers did not pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, someone called 911 about a vehicle crash. When police arrived at the scene, they found the car from the one-way incident wrapped around an oak tree. Only one person was in the vehicle.

The driver was later identifed as 46-year-old Calvin Moore, who died as a result of the crash.

According to the wreck report, it was suspected Moore was impaired by alcohol.

It also stated Moore was driving 80 mph in a 35 mph zone before he hit a street sign and then the tree.

No other cars were involved.
