Troopers search phone for crash info

RALEIGH

Gavin Westover, 16, died after troopers said 17-year-old Austin Marx lost control of a 1996 Chevy Camaro on Puryear Road near the intersection of Marks Creek, just north of U.S. 64 near Knightdale.

Marx is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Now, troopers are looking at cell phone images taken by another student who showed up at the scene of the crash in a blue Ford Mustang right after it happened.

"Some information that was brought to us that there may have been some type of speed competition," Trooper Beckley Vaughan of the NC Highway Patrol told ABC11 Eyewitness News.

Discovery of any kind of racing could lead to more charges for Marx. The investigation continues.
