Wake gets $28M in stimulus money

RALEIGH

The money will be used for a new fingerprint ID program, mass transit and a waste water treatment plant.

Meeker thanked the Obama administration and the Triangle congressional delegation, who are all Democrats like Meeker.

"This reflects the relative strength of our congressmen," Mayor Meeker said. "They are now in a position to include Raleigh and other communities in the Triangle in the appropriations. We're getting appropriations that didn't happen a couple of years ago."

Congressman David rice is on the House of Appropriations Committee, which decides where to spend federal money.

Congressman Bob Etheridge is on the House Ways and Means Committee, which decides how to raise money.
