Christmas comes to Cary

January 14, 2010 9:52:10 PM PST
The Town of Cary has decided to label a decorated tree as a "community Christmas tree."Thursday night, council members voted 6-1 to start using the word Christmas in their holiday celebrations.

The "Official Tree Lighting Ceremony" will now be known as "The Cary Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony."

And the "Community Tree" inside town hall will be called "Cary's Community Christmas Tree."

The decision came following controversy this past December.

A town spokeswoman said the trees have always had their names and they never removed the word Christmas from anything.

They said if the council voted to rename them they would comply.
