Stacy Haeft has a job at Wild Wings in Port Clinton. Haeft's mother works at Silgan. "She's devastated, of course."
The Missouri-based company opened the 400,000-square-foot facility in 1989. Silgan makes plastic bottles. At a meeting Tuesday, 150 employees learned the plant will be closing as early as April. It's more harsh news for Ottawa County which has the highest unemployment rate in the region, nearly 17.5 percent.
Silgan presented employees with a "transition plan", but the company declined to elaborate on whether some workers may transfer to plants in other states.
