School prepares students for severe weather

RALEIGH

Officials say severe weather should be taken seriously and everyone should prepare for it.

"They [tornadoes] suck things up, and then when it goes away, they drop the things down," Francis Lacy Elementary kindergartner Anja McCubbin said.

There were 33 tornadoes in NC last year and 70 tornado warnings.

Authorities say you should keep as many walls between you and the outside as possible. Also avoid big rooms, avoid glass and don't go outside.

The state is urging adults and children everywhere to practice, so when the real thing comes, they'll be ready.

Severe Weather Awareness Week goes through March 6. For more information, click here.
