Elizabeth Truitt, 49, of 247 Baltimore Road, was arrested Thursday after investigators got a tip.
Deputies said Truitt gave them permission to search her property and they found a loaded Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver in her possession. Deputies also searched a trash can and found an ounce of pot and drug paraphernalia that a witness said Truitt attempted to hide.
In addition to working as a teacher's assistant, Truitt also drove a school bus for the district.
She's officially charged with felonious possession of a weapon on school property, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Truitt was released from the Chatham County jail on $10,000 bond. Her first court date is set for mid April.
