Investigators said it happened just before 1 p.m. Sunday on school property.
Driver Edith Pena, 33, of Landing Place Drive, Wendell, told police she stopped her vehicle to let pedestrians walk from between some parked cars near some soccer fields. She thought all had gotten by her and began to pull forward. That's when she heard a woman's scream. She turned left and stopped.
Police said 3-year-old Jaciel Hernandez of Westside Circle in Zebulon went underneath the right rear wheel of Pena's car and was killed.
