It happened around 10:40 p.m. near the NC 54 exit. Police say Roxsana Jimenez Dimas, 19, of Winston-Salem was traveling eastbound when she swerved to avoid a vehicle that was parked on the left shoulder.
Dimas then lost control of her car, crossed the eastbound lanes, ran off the right side of the road and struck a steel trailer that was parked in the grass shoulder area. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police blocked two lanes of I-40 Monday night for about three hours in order to clear the scene.
