Students busted for drinking on prom bus

CHARLOTTE, N.C.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg board member Rhonda Lennon rented the bus to take 34 North Mecklenburg High School students from dinner to the prom Saturday. Lennon said the purpose of the bus was to keep the teens from driving on prom night.

Lennon's daughter is among the students charged with underage drinking, and she was suspended from school. Lennon says authorities acted properly and the students should face the consequences of their actions.

North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement cited seven students for underage consumption and one for possession of alcohol.
