According to State Troopers, 32-year-old Isidro Mendez was traveling southbound at approximately 90 MPH on Saturday morning, when he lost control of his 2001 Chevy pick-up truck and killed 27-year-old Rafael Infante Virrueta.
Authorities have charged Mendez in the fatal crash. Troopers say Mendez overcorrected his truck and ran off the road, hitting several trees. The truck was severely damaged, pinning both the driver and passenger inside.
Troopers say speed and alcohol were factors in the wreck. The area where the accident happened is in a 35 mile an hour zone.
Mendez is being held without bond on a felony death by vehicle charge.
Mendez is will make his first court appearance on Monday. Mendez suffered injuries in the wreck, bu was treated and released from WakeMed.
