Spc. Eric A. Mead, a 26-year-old native of Detroit, is charged with premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder.
Investigators say he killed brother-in-law Stephen Harris in the Casablanca housing area on post. Meade's wife was also hurt in the incident and is recovering at Womack Army Medical Center.
The day before the murder, Meade's unit commander had ordered him to stay away from his wife because of previous verbal altercations.
Meade is being held in pretrial confinement at Camp Lejeune. He is an indirect fire infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Mead had two combat deployments; one to Afghanistan in 2005 and one Iraq in 2006.
