The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its predictions for the 2010 hurricane season Thursday.

Forecasters say this season could be very active with 14-23 named storms in the Atlantic Ocean, 8-14 hurricanes and 3-7 major storms.

On Wednesday, Governor Beverly Purdue met with the state's emergency administrators in Raleigh. She was very clear in her directive to the public, saying get ready and get prepared.

Residents are urged to prepare an emergency plan and kit, know evacuation routes and go over procedures with your family.

Purdue also said the state needs to be prepared to seek assistance from military and other states.
