Officers arrived at the Progressive Men's Club on Old Goldsboro Road just before 1 a.m. Sunday in response to a shots fired call.
Officials say the building was being rented out for a pre-teen party for the end of the year. They say while the party was in progress inside the building, someone began shooting outside.
Officers found a 12-year-old in the parking lot who had been shot in the stomach.
The child was transported by Smithfield Rescue to the hospital for treatment and is currently still in the hospital in stable condition.
Officers say the suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
