Vigil held for domestic violence victims

JOHNSTON COUNTY During the vigil, residents honored victims' memory, as well as learned more about the crimes that claimed their lives.

Earlier this week, police say a 4-year-old girl died after having been tortured and sexually assaulted by her mother's boyfriend.

Resident Keri Christiansen says Teghan Skiba is the fourth person to die recently in Johnston County as a result of domestic violence.

"It's very hard to believe, you can't even believe what you're hearing," she said. "You just think not another victim in Johnston County."

Three other victims, 50-year-old William House, 42-year-old Devinee House and 15-year-old Dakota Johnson were found dead from gunshot wounds inside their home at 640 Castleberry Road last week.

According Tammy Amaon, sheriff's office spokesperson, William shot his wife and his 15-year-old stepson before turning the gun on himself.

Investigators say William and Devinee were going through a divorce and had a history of domestic issues.

"It is absolutely crucial that we come together as a community and talk about what we have to do going forward so that we don't have any more homicides that are domestic violence-related," Christiansen said.
