Wake schools could cut transportation staff

RALEIGH

Business Manager David Neter said cuts are necessary because the final state budget reduces the local transportation budget by $1.18 million.

Neter declined to say if the reduction would mean drivers or support staff could be laid off, but he said the reduction shouldn't disrupt service to students.

The transportation department said it will be buying fewer replacement parts - which will save money - and is switching cell phone providers to save the system money in every department.
