One dead in Wilson shooting

WILSON

Kolly Burritt, Public Information Officer with the City of Wilson, told ABC11 that police were called to a domestic dispute and shooting in the 600 block of Whitehead Avenue.

Burritt said a man involved in the dispute fled the area in a BMW with other people in the car with him.

One eyewitness told ABC11 that he saw the gunman holding a woman in a headlock as they left a house at 606 Whitehead Avenue. The eyewitness said the gunman shot the woman in the leg and forced her inside a car.

Around 11 a.m., officers located the car at the intersection Ward Boulevard and Forest Hills Road.

As officers approached the car, shots were fired and then the BMW went through the intersection and collided with two other cars.

One person in the BMW was dead at the scene and another was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital. No one in the other cars was hurt.

Witnesses said it was the woman who was killed. She has not yet been identified.

The State Bureau of Investigation confirmed to ABC11 that it was called in to assist with the case.

Eyewitnesses also reported seeing a small child, possibly 3-4 years old, removed from the BMW. We're told the child is in police custody.

Authorities re-opened Ward Blvd. and Forest Hills Road around 5:45 p.m.
