Motorcyclist killed in Fayetteville wreck

FAYETTEVILLE

Investigators say a Nissan was traveling east on Country Club Drive around 2 a.m., when the driver lost control of his car, crossed the center line, and struck a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle head-on.

Police have identified the driver of the car as 22-year-old Jason Taft of Kingscreek Drive in Fayetteville.

The motorcycle rider, identified as 27-year-old Felipe Ramirez of 3519 M Service Street on Fort Bragg, died at the scene. Currently, there has been no indication that Ramirez was speeding or under the influence of alcohol.

On Monday, authorities charged Taft with second degree murder. They say speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. Taft is in custody at the Cumberland County Jail.
