FAA investigates Cumberland County plane crash

EASTOVER

An 11-year-old girl shot video of the scene moments after a single-engine Beechcraft crashed at the end of the runway in the Eastover Air Ranch subdivision. The plane crashed about 50 yards from her front door, and her dad heard it happen.

"I heard a loud primal scream from the engine like full throttle, and then silence, and then the crash," David Culbreth explained. "And I knew it was an aircraft."

When Culbreth ran outside, he saw the pilot lying on the wing. The plane's passenger crawled out and the plane was leaking fuel.

"[The] pilot was pretty bad," Culbreth said. "I could tell his leg was mangled up. There was a lot of blood. [It] started pooling. It, it started turning blue, complaining of his back."

The pilot, Byud Symond, is in good condition and his passenger, Randy Nunnery, is in serious condition.

Culbreth says neighbors taxi their planes out of their garages and take off daily from the grass runway in Eastover, but the Beechcraft ran out of runway, crashed through some trees and crash landed on a street called Final Approach Drive.
