Mebane man found with bones faces murder charge

DURHAM COUNTY

A Durham County grand jury indicted 32-year-old Michael Dorman, II of Mebane Tuesday. He is accused of killing Lakeia Boxely in 2008.

Prosecutors originally charged Dorman with failure to report a death.

Boxely's mother reported her missing on March 8, 2008.

According to District Attorney Tracey Kline, Dorman told a friend he killed a woman in Durham two years ago and asked the friend to help dispose of the bones. The friend notified Orange County sheriff's deputies and took a backpack containing the bones from Dorman on July 14 and placed them in an unmarked sheriff's truck.

Authorities arrested Dorman on July 15. He told investigators he found the bones.

Authorities have not said how Boxely died or if Boxely knew Dorman.
