Boil water order lifted for Franklin Co

September 21, 2010 8:25:39 AM PDT
All residents who get their water from the Franklin County Public Utilities system can now drink it without boiling it first. Residents were told Monday to boil their water after total coli form bacteria was found in water samples.

County officials said coli forms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are generally not harmful themselves. However, coli forms are an indicator that other, potentially harmful, bacteria may be present.

Officials said follow-up samples were negative for bacteria, and the boil water advisory was lifted Tuesday morning.

Town of Franklinton water customers were not affected by the boil water advisory.
