A Wake Forest man shot and killed by Wake County Sheriff's Deputies on December 18 held his wife and a child hostage overnight with an axe, according to a search warrant returned Thursday. The State Bureau of Investigation requested the search warrant the day of the incident, as the agency began probing the deputy-involved shooting.

According to an affidavit sworn to by Agent Michael East, Cody Knisley, 23, threatened to "chop up" his wife, before she escaped from the residence and contacted her brother, who called 911.

That's when deputies surrounded the residence, and Knisley allegedly came outside with an object in his hands.
