A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 GMC pick-up truck driven by 60-year-old Dennis Vandevender struck 48-year-old Nathlie Whitted of Gertrude Street as she was walking across the road.
Whitted was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where she later died.
The investigation continues.
