In advance of a possible winter weather event hitting central North Carolina early next week, NCDOT Wake County maintenance crews will begin pre-treating major roadways with salt brine on Sunday morning, starting between 9 and 10 a.m.Officials say putting down the brine solution in advance gives it time to dry and adhere to roadway surfaces and lessens the chance for freezing on the road at the start of a snow or ice event, helping crews get ahead of the cleaning efforts.

The Town of Cary's A-Team is getting an even earlier jump, beginning their operations Saturday morning.

ABC11's weather team is monitoring the wintery mix. It is expected to hit the viewing area overnight night Monday into all day Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say it is still too early to tell how much, if any, accumulation there will be.
