Laicey Everett is the mother of two of the victims. She described today's gathering as a celebration of their lives. "I don't even want to relive that. It's too hard. I don't want any parent to have to go through that," Everett said.
Now, nearly one year later, family members are doing what they can to keep memories of the boys alive. Dozens of friends, relatives, and community members came together to celebrate their lives.
Pictures of Jay'den, De'vontae, and Ralph covered the walls as people shared memories. The first responders who were on scene the day the boys died were honored and thanked.
While every day is still a struggle for Everett, she says the constant love and support she receives from friends, family, and neighbors keeps her going. "I just want to thank the community for coming today," she said. "The support, it means a lot to me."
On Monday, Everett has organized a dedication for the boys at the site of the tragedy.
