Man dies following weekend car-to-car shooting

DURHAM The shooting happened around 3 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Roxboro Street.

Demario Eugene Carr, 26, died as a result of his injuries on Monday after being rushed to the hospital following the shooting.

According to Durham Police, Carr was a passenger in a car that was on the freeway. They say they believe a person in another vehicle shot him while both cars were moving.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle Carr was in then drove him to Durham Police headquarters, which was roped off as a crime scene.

It wasn't until they began interviewing the driver that they realized the Durham Freeway was the primary scene.

Police then shut down the northbound lanes of the freeway at Fayetteville Street for about five hours - snarling traffic.

According to investigators, the incident does not appear to be random. No charges have been filed, but investigators say they are following several leads.
