Police trying to ID jewelry store thief

CHAPEL HILL Chapel Hill police say on Tuesday around 4:45 p.m. they received a call about a robbery at Grimball Jewelers on Elliott Road.

Authorities say the robbery suspect reportedly grabbed several rings from a display case and ran out of the business.

The suspect is described as an African American man between 35 and 40 years old. He stands about 5'10" to 6' tall.

He was wearing a peach color stripe polo-type shirt, dark blue jean shorts, white sneakers and a white baseball hot with a Nike logo on the front.

If anyone has information about this suspect, please call either the Chapel Hill Police Department at 968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7515. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous, and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000 for information that leads to arrest.
