Man killed, teen shot in Roanoke Rapids

ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC

Major Bruce Temple said it happened at a home at 209 Carico Lumber Road in Roanoke Rapids.

Deputies were called to the residence at 3:40 a.m. Friday. Temple said Tony Devon Hawkins 36, of Roanoke Rapids was found fatally shot in the throat.

A 14-year-old boy in the home was grazed by a bullet. Two mobile homes and a car were hit by the flying bullets.

Temple said it all began with an argument between people at the party and 23-year-old Elvin Maurice Alston and 19-year-old Travis Jackson, both of Roanoke Rapids.

The men allegedly left the party and returned firing a high-powered rifle from a car. Jackson was the alleged driver and Alston the triggerman. Both Alston and Jackson are charged with murder. They were in the Halifax County jail Friday without bond.

Temple said more charges are pending.
