Some schools suffered physical damage in the storm. In Edgecombe County, part of the roof came off at Tarboro High School.

Carteret County Schools Superintendent Dan Novey says his district's school s suffered minor damages like leaking roofs. He said winds also knocked over a football scoreboard at Croatan High School.

Novey said Carteret County schools can't reopen until power is restored to schools and neighborhoods.
