Bank robber sought after shooting man

ROCKY MOUNT

The robbery happened around 9:15 a.m. when the suspect entered the First South Bank inside Smith's Red and White Grocery store on North Halifax Road and demanded money.

After an employee at the bank gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect then hit him over the head with his gun.

The suspect then left the store on foot and headed toward Griffins gas station on Dortches Boulevard. It was there that he confronted a driver who was sitting in his parked truck and shot him in the back of the head, before getting into another vehicle.

The victim was able to drive away from the gas station and is currently at the hospital in stable condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital. Deputies identified him as 23-year-old Uriel Guillen of Rocky Mount.

Authorities are searching for the suspect, who was last seen getting into a red Ford Explorer headed north on Hwy 43.

The suspect was described as a man with long dread locks wearing a camouflaged cap, camouflaged bandana, green camouflaged jacket, white gloves, navy pants and tennis shoes.
