Raleigh's historic post office will remain open

It appears the City of Raleigh's century-old post office on Fayetteville Street has been spared.

The post office has been in service continually for nearly 135 years.

The United States Post Service announced back in the summer that it wanted to close the facility because of a 20 percent decline in mail volume and lost revenue.

Former Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker led the charge to keep it open.
