Six vehicles were involved in the crash that happened just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The accident caused all Eastbound lanes of I-40 at Exit 293 to be shut down before crews were able to clear the scene.
Wake EMS PIO Jeffrey Hammerstein said three people were taken to Rex Hospital and one to WakeMed, although none had serious injuries.
