ABC 11 viewers help save woman's home

RALEIGH

We first introduced you to Jackie Zephirin on Friday. She was set to take her two boys to the homeless shelter. Why? This single mom owed more than $2,400 in unpaid HOA dues, late fees, court costs and attorney fees. Her HOA foreclosed on the home and were set to evict her and her two boys just a week before Christmas.

Once I got involved, the HOA decided to delay kicking the family out of their home until Jan. 4 and give her two more weeks to come up with the money. Jackie was just so happy that she and her boys could have one last Christmas in their home.

Well, thanks to generous viewers, this will be a very special Christmas for Jackie and her two boys.

Since we first met Jackie, her Christmas was already looking brighter. Some presents under the tree, from generous ABC 11 viewers, one of those viewers wrote her a check to help her out this holiday season and even gave her a Christmas ham.

She says her two boys, just 7 and 8 years old were so thankful when they heard the news that they could stay in their home for at least one more Christmas and give their mom more time to pay the $2,400 debt to the Cymen Commons Homeowner's Association.

"They pray to God every night and say 'dear Lord, thank you for letting us keep our home,' but I hope we can keep it till after Jan. 4," said Jackie.

What Jackie had no idea about is that her boys prayers have been answered.

Through donations, Jackie now has the total amount she needs.

"Oh, thank you, Jesus, Thank you," said Jackie. "Thank you. Thank God."

Six different viewers came together to help Jackie.

Jackie was overwhelmed with emotion to know that ABC 11 viewers all came together and donated the $2,417 to pay off the HOA debt. Those generous donations gave Jackie and her two boys their home back.

Laura Ryan was one of those viewers who helped.

"This story touched my heart and I couldn't see this family and the little boys out of their home at the holidays," said Ryan. "And, I had a little extra cash put aside and I wanted to do something that that made a difference."

And it's made a difference, as one secret Santa viewer even put in a little extra.

Not only did they cover the debt the $2,417.00, there was one viewer who donated money so Jackie's 2012 dues are covered as well.

"Oh God, thank you so much," said Jackie. "This is the reason for the season."

It's a holiday season Jackie says she'll never forget.

"I'm going to always pay back," she said. "When I'm on my feet and financially stable, I will pay it forward. That's a guarantee."

The money is now in the hands of the HOA attorney and he tells me he is in the process of deeding the home back to Jackie, which should happen by Wednesday.
