Missing Durham woman found in lake

DURHAM

Margaret "Peg" Lewis, 58, had been missing since her vehicle was found in the Parkwood Lake area earlier this month.

A police department spokesperson said preliminary autopsy results do not point to foul play.

Lewis's obituary, published by a Durham funeral home early Tuesday, said she was a native of Bethesda, Maryland, but she had lived in Durham for several years and was employed at Duke University.

As ABC11 reported Monday, Lewis was linked to a high profile murder case where another woman's body was found in a lake.

In 2003, Lewis testified at the murder trial of Robert Petrick, who was the husband of Durham cellist Janine Sutphen. Sutphen went missing and, months later, her body was found in Falls Lake in Wake County.

Lewis, who vanished Dec. 9, was Sutphen's best friend. Her testimony was instrumental during the murder trial.
