Police say they suspect a mother was impaired when she was involved in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night that left her and her child with injuries.

Officers said 41-year-old Lisa Michelle Lovell was traveling northbound on Ramsey Street with her 4-year-old child just before 11 p.m. when she crossed the centerline, two lanes of traffic, and then crashed into a pole.

Fayetteville police say Lovell's child was not in a child seat at the time of the crash.

Mother and child were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment.

During the investigation, officers said they noticed that Lovell may have been driving while impaired. She was cited for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Lovell is also charged with misdemeanor child abuse and failing to secure her child in a child restraint system. Police said more charges could be filed after blood tests come back from a lab.
