Investigators say the girl was walking in the 1200 block of Sawyer Road around 7:30 a.m. Friday, on the way to Carnage Middle School.
That's when she said the nude suspect pulled alongside her, and tried to get her into his car.
After she refused, the girl told police the suspect initially follwed her in the vehicle, but then left as she was running back to her home.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s with light to medium skin tone, short hair, and no facial hair. He was reported to be driving a silver sedan, possibly a 2003-2005 Toyota Camry.
Police say the suspect was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Now, the neighborhood is on alert as residents take extra caution with their children.
"You don't deal with people's children," neighbor Louvenia Hill said. "A grown person like me I can handle myself, but you do not deal with an innocent child. Not only little girls, little boys too."
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Raleigh police or CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP.
