Man rescued from burning home

RALEIGH

The blaze broke out just before 9 p.m. in the 1400 block of Kincaid Drive off New Hope Road.

Firefighters put water on the blaze and began a search for 74-year-old Pete Watkins, who was found unresponsive and in respiratory arrest.

Firefighters and EMS workers began resuscitation, and Watkins was breathing on his own as he was rushed to Wake Medical Center. He was later flown to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill.

No one knows what sparked the blaze but family members told ABC11 that Watkins ran out of the home and then ran back inside for some reason and became trapped.

Watkins was last listed in critical condition and was in a coma.

A Raleigh police officer and another man who tried to rescue Watkins before firefighters arrived were treated for smoke inhalation.
