Four car pileup closes part of I-40

Part of I-40 was shut down Saturday evening after a four-car pileup.

Raleigh Police said weather was not to blame for the accident that sent nine people to the hospital. Officials said those people only suffered minor injuries.

The accident happened near the beltline at exit 301 around 6:20 p.m. Police said traffic had slowed down, but one car was not able to stop in time, creating a domino effect.

I-40 was closed for a brief time while a wrecker cleared the scene, but all lanes have since reopened.
