One dead, search continues for suspect who fled

DURHAM

Around 1:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a collision involving three vehicles at Driver Street and Angier Avenue.

Police said a 2012 black Ford Edge traveling northbound on Driver Street struck a vehicle traveling eastbound on Angier Avenue. The impact caused the second vehicle to collide into a third vehicle that was traveling westbound on Angier Avenue.

Police said the driver of the Ford Edge fled on foot from the scene. He is described as black male in his early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall and 145 to 160 pounds. He had a light to medium complexion and was wearing his hair in dreadlocks. Police say he may frequent the Walltown area.

On Tuesday, police said the driver of the Cadillac, 76-year-old Weldon Lewis Williams, of Durham, died at Duke University hospital. The driver of the Suzuki remained in critical condition.
